About

Self-liberation Society is an online community dedicated to personal growth. It is aimed at people who long for a deep community of growth-oriented peers.

Founder

EmmaI’m Emma Love Arbogast and I created SLS. I write about self-liberation from a psycho-spiritual perspective based on my own journey of healing and self-empowerment. I also write about neurodivergence and how to thrive as an autistic/ADHD adult.

I have a blog at Joy Ninja and more recently a Substack newsletter at Sparkly Dark. All my projects and socials are listed at emmaarbogast.com.

My approach to healing and personal growth is biased towards methods that are trauma-informed and non-forceful (working with defenses rather than overcoming them).

I also strive to be privilege-aware, autonomy-supporting, and belief-agnostic, meaning that I try to support people to be who they are and want to be, within their own belief system and what makes sense to them.

I’m not trying to be a self-help guru—I just want to share what I have found that worked, and encourage people along their path. What I want most for people is to end self-violence and replace it with self-support.

Beyond personal growth, I’m also wildly curious about a wide variety of topics including technology, AI, futurism, politics (both US and global), science, and how to build a just and sustainable culture and world. I am also an avid student of astrology and studied Nonviolent Communication (NVC) for many years.

I realized I am autistic and ADHD in 2023.

My vision for SLS

I want to build an online community where everyone feels ownership and belonging of what we build together.

I want to create a community space where people who are passionate about personal growth can build authentic connections and grow together.

I envision SLS as a place where we can ask for support from everything from healing from deep wounds like CPTSD and insecure attachment, to getting feedback on a new business idea or travel adventure, and everything in between. It is a place where we can bring our full selves, and support each other to grow in every direction we wish to.

Small groups and peer relationships have always been crucial to my growth. Groups are where I learned I didn’t have to be perfect, and I could show up and contribute and be seen just as I am. It’s also way more dynamic and fun than doing everything on your own.

Humans are really meant to human together.

I want to create a growth-stimulating environment for myself and other people, especially for people who don’t fit into conventional molds: entrepreneurs, digital nomads, creative awesome folks doing their own thing in life who are dedicated to their own growth and healing and actively seeking to live their best life on their own terms.

And, of course, other neurodivergent folks, who often find it hard to find a community where they can be themselves.

I’m inspired by the article Of Pods, Squads, Crews & Gangs: Small Group Experiments In Radical Belonging in how I see the benefits of coming together in the spirit of growth and friendship. There is magic available in community, and I want to build a container to inspire and harness that magic.
